Chuck Appleby, Ph.D. is an organization development and change management consultant who has consulted with government, non-profit, and commercial organizations His clients include: VeriSign, Rolls Royce, Booz Allen Hamilton, Discovery Communications, Sparks Personnel, Mitretek Systems, Emerging Markets Management, BAE Systems, comScore Networks, Midwest Express Airlines, the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Reconnaissance Office, the Census Bureau, NIH, the Department of Energy, NASA, Department of the Navy, General Accountability Office, American Psychological Association, American Petroleum Institute, the Center for Student Support Services, and the American Public Health Association.
Prior to being an external consultant, Dr. Appleby was an officer in the U.S. Navy for 6 years serving on fast attack and missile submarines. He qualified as a Chief Engineer for Naval Nuclear Propulsion Systems. Later in his career he served in leadership positions at Pacific-Sierra Research Corporation and Scitor Corporation. He is currently an Adjunct Faculty member at the George Washington University where he teaches courses in Action Learning, organization development, and strategic human resource management in the Department of Human and Organization Studies.
Dr. Appleby is also on the Board of Trustees for the Center for Student Support Services and the Board of Advisors for the Northern Virginia Companies as Responsive Employers (CARE) Award. He is the founder of the Great Enterprises Consortium, a collaborative of independent consultants dedicated to creating great workplaces. He earned a B.A. in History and Economics from Dartmouth College and a Ph.D. in International Relations from The Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies.
